Different Types of Systems & How They Work.

Septic Systems are like your own personal water treatment facility. Just like the large community and city water treatment facilities, at some point, the left overs from the water treatment builds up into sludge and scum that stays behind in your tank as the water itself is the only thing supposed to be exiting the system out to your leach/drain fields. Your system is practically a natural gravity filtration system with important micro organisms that eat and break down solids being flushed in to the tank and the waste from those organisms leave behind the sludge that needs to be removed over the coarse of a few years. This is where we come in, just like the large water treatment facilities, your system will need pumped out to prevent all the solids from exiting your tank from building up and out to your leach field where it will begin to clog up and back into your house or place of business. Residential Septic tanks on average are recommended every 2-5 years for service to prevent a catastrophe. Most Commercial accounts can range from monthly to yearly.

Conventional Anaerobic Systems

A conventional System is a primitive system that's been widely used for many years. The waste flushed into the inlet of the tank sits in the first chamber of the system where bacteria (micro organisms) break down the waste and the heavy solids settle to the bottom and scum floats on the top. The effluent then feeds into the second chamber where the process is repeated again and more refined where the processed effluent makes its way to the drain/leach field.

Aerobic Treatment Systems

Aerobic Treatment Systems use a similar process as a municipal sewage plant, but on a smaller scale. An aerobic system injects oxygen into the treatment tank. The additional oxygen increases natural bacterial activity in the system that then provides additional treatment for nutrients in the effluent. Some aerobic systems may also have a pretreatment tank and a final treatment tank including disinfection to further reduce pathogen levels.

Other Systems

There are many other types of systems with different names due to the way the treated water leaves the tank to leach fields. The concept of the tanks are where its important to have the system serviced to prevent the leach fields from being clogged due to sludge and scum build up leaving the system.
